Positive Heroes has been chosen to be in the final 3 entries in South Africa for the NIKE GAMECHANGERS COMPETITION! All about how women can help bring about social change through sport.
A short film will now be made about the Positive Heroes ultra marathon team, powered by Discovery Health, to be shown on TV in order for the public to vote for the winner (details in due course). We have three runners, all living with HIV, in the 2009 Two Oceans (56km) and Comrades (89km) marathons.
There is a paradigm shift that occurs when we view those living with HIV as strong and capable and able even to conquer the world’s greatest endurance races. We hope to both honour how women like Evelina are leading South Africa’s response to to HIV and also show how by re-focusing on long-term goals, people living with HIV can help each other overcome the challenges they face in their daily lives. There is life after an HIV diagnosis and there is a reason and real advantage to test early and if appropriate take ARVs.
